Optical modes in an elliptical fiber

This java applet (program) is loaded and you run it on your own computer.
You give the cross section of the guide and it computes the propagation modes.
Here is proposed an example of an optical fiber: the fiber is decomposed (like an apple pie!) in 24 sectors.

First launch the sines menu to compute the sines expansion and the effective indices : it can be long because of the integrations performed on the 24 sectors, then show the fields (mode menu). <select> gives a higher resolution.
