Beam Propagation**
You run the simulation on your own computer: a Java applet (java program)
is loaded, and then executed.
This program solves the propagation equation for integrated optical
circuit : a path with a slightly higher refraction index is "printed" on
a substrate, (like optical fibers embedded in a layer). The propagation
(in TE mode) is made from left to right on the rectangular domain representing
the top view of the substrate.
You try the default circuit : a directional coupler, or you define
with the mouse and/or the properties dialogs:
-
The shape(s) (part of your optical circuit : s-bends or rectilinear) as well as the input Gaussian field by
drawing it (them) with the mouse :
-
A shape , the computation domain (normally shape#0) or the input field can be selected with mouse, while checkbox
"selected" is enabled. This allows to access corresponding properties dialog
(button).
-
The parameters can be adjusted with the dialogs appearing when you press
<properties> : the shapes i.e. waveguides, domain and input field are
chained and you circulate from one to the next or previous with the corresponding
buttons. Validations through <OK>.
-
By default, a waveguide is defined as well as an input field. You can delete
them : check the "select" box, click on the shape to delete and press the
"delete" button.
Right click displays the properties dialog too
TM mode is now available thanks to Guillaume Pille
- Right click displays the properties dialog too, enables a delete, copy index to other guides...
- Click <compute> (sometimes twice!) to launch the simulation with the
most recently defined input field.
- You can list the values of the field profile every n steps (adjust n with incr. display in filed value).
-
Now, you can use the textfield box to stop the propagation at a given distance
z instead of the default domain #0 length. This is useful to watch the
field in a critical zone, display or export it (cut and paste) .
A simulation of a propagation in a multi modes interference
device is also provided as an example. And more !
multilayer BPM!
You can save, modify the HTML document on your own computer to get your
personal structure directly, and then launch the applet from your own
computer.
