Propagation in a multi mode interference device

Here is an example of beam propagation simulated in a multimode interference
device. A single mode beam is expanded in many modes when entering the
large wave guide which is deeply multimodal. Because of the differences
of propagation speed, the modes interfere. The image of the input field
is rebuilt ( all modes in phase) after L um, but two images are rebuilt
at L/2 ... This allows the design of a power splitter.
